2014 Chelyabinsk World Championships Preview - 81kg

Georgia's Avtandil Tchrikishvili is by far the most powerful player in this category. Always upright, ambidextrous and full of throwing power, it's hard to see anyone stopping him from getting the gold.

France's Loic Pietri beat Tchrikishvili in the final of the 2013 Rio World Championships, although in the team event the Georgian prevailed. They also fought in the final of the 2014 Paris Grand Slam where again, the Georgian won.

South Korea's Olympic and double World Champion Kim Jae-Bum, of course, is also strong contender. But he has not been very active in competition after winning the Olympics. He has fought in four IJF competitions since winning the gold in London, and won only two of them. The new IJF rules which forbid heavy grip fighting does not favor Kim's style of fighting.
