Send to Koka Kids, Co Pinewood Judo Club, Pinewood Leisure Centre, Old Wokingham Rd, Berks, RG40 3AQ The Koka Kids Junior Judo magazine is designed and edited by the 1993 world champion, Nicola Fairbrother (nicola@kokakids.co.uk). Since its launch in 2001, Koka Kids has sold out every issue and its circulation is steadily growing. Already coaches who teach in clubs and schools throughout the UK have signed up and the feedback appears to be all positive. (Nicola is on the right with her 1992 Barcelona Olympic silver medal - digitised pictures of Barcelona will follow) Nicola says "The kids really like it. You can see it on their faces when they get a new copy of the magazi
Promoting junior judo is key to the Koka Kid's aims and objectives..
To help the promotion of judo in their area participating clubs also get free posters. These posters are full colour and A3 in size, designed to stand out from a school notice board or on a sports centre's wall. (Nicola is on the left below with her 1993 World gold medal - digitised pictures of the Hamilton Worlds will follow) "Its up to the coaches to decide where they put the posters. There's a blank space at the bottom so that they can write in their club details, class times... or whatever event they wish to promote. Hopefully, non judoka will see these posters and will want to try judo." says Nicola. And to further help individual clubs gain recognition, participating clubs also get their club news published in the magazine. In the last issue, there were 10 pages of club news with articles on Bushido's victory at the London International, on school judo taught by Alan Jones and Sue Crofts in Wales, on Matt Divall's annual Inter Schools Championships, on schools in Berkshire taught by Ryan Joseph, on Senshu Judo's new elite sqaud and the Senshu mini judoka class, on Pinewood's win at Harlow, on Yamashita's visit to New York, on Jo Dan's triumph at the London International, on Hall Grove's most improved judoka, on a recent grading at the San Juan club in Puerto Rico and JAG's recent exchange trip to Singapore. (Right: Nicola with her trophy at the 1990 Frankfurt Europeans - digitised pictures to follow) This along with posters to collect, prizes to be won, technique tips and fantastic action photographs makes the Koka Kids magazine a sure winner with the youngsters. The magazine cost £2.00 each but is NOT available for individual subscription. There is a minimum order per club of 30 magazines (the £2.00 price is for UK and Europe, with discounts for orders over 400 and £3.35 for Rest of the World, with discounts for orders over 100).
