Originally they were the bitterest of
foes.
At the 1992 Barcelona Olympics both reached the final
after beating the best in the world to do so.
The fight went backwards
and forwards, but Miriam Blasco edged ahead supported by the fiercely
patriotic crowd and the presence of the King and Queen of Spain, giving Blasco the
psychological edge that won her the gold medal.
It is an extraordinary story at the peak of human
sporting achievement with the result that they are now the best of friends.
